A good 70 years ago, Manfred Rhodius set out in his VW bus—converted into a mobile workshop—to test his newly developed cutting discs in workshops and factories. He carried with him the first innovative cutting and grinding discs from RHODIUS.
The practical experience and knowledge gained were quickly incorporated into the development of new RHODIUS grinding tools. For example, as early as the late 1950s, production was switched from paper backing to fibre glass—just as we still see today in resin-bonded cutting and grinding discs.
This close connection to the user and the pursuit of innovation have remained unchanged at RHODIUS Abrasives to this day.

After 70 years under the ownership of the Rhodius family and as part of the Rhodius Group, Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI) took the helm at RHODIUS Abrasives on April 1, 2022.
